Brother's SE270D is a full featured combination computerized sewing and embroidery machine. The embroidery features include 97 built-in embroidery desings featuring 27 Mickey Mouse & Friends designs and 70 additional designs including florals, seasonal themes and much more. There are 5 built-in monogramming fonts in 3 different sizes. These alphabets are great for creating names and phrases with your embroidery machine. The embroidery hoop area is 4" x 4". The SE270D also has a built-in memory card slot which is compatible with Brother's extensive Embroidery Card Collection, Disney Embroidery Card Collection and our software PE-Design and PED-Basic. These items require an additional purchase of each accessory product. It couldn't be easier to embellish your project with our SE270D embroidery system. The SE270D has 98 built in stitch functions and Brother's exclusive quick-load thread cassette system. The cassette system threads your machine in 3 easy steps which even includes threading the needle for you. You can also operate this machine without the foot control using the built-in one touch start/stop and reverse operations. It is easy to select your stitch or embroidey pattern on this machine as it has a built-in LCD computerized touch screen pannel. The stitch width and length are adjustable as well as the thread tension. By TheWoz This machine was recommended to me by a close relative that is very experienced in embroidering. I was interested in doing some things but didn't want to spend a lot of money on a machine as I didn't know if I would really like embroidering. As a novice, I didn't want to deal with anything too complicated. WOW, what a surprise. I love this machine!! I have never embroidered anything in my life! Opened the machine and within an hour had embroidered my first design. It was only my initials but I couldn't believe how easy it was with this machine. I'm hooked! No doubt I have much to learn about embroidering..but for me, I couldn't have found a better machine! It's GREAT!!! Brother Embroidery and Sewing Machine By Kimberly I received this machine as a birthday gift and couldn't be happier with it! I thought it would be intimidating to use, but on the contrary it is extremely easy to switch between sewing and embroidery. The automatic threading system makes it amazingly easy to switch from one color to another and the electronic controls are a great addition. Straight stiching is very quiet, and even embroidery isn't that loud. The only caveat is that you can't add designs directly, but with the purchase of a SmartBox you can download them free or economically from websites and save the $60 or $80 Brother charges for expansion cards. I had a very tough time finding one in stock - NEW. I had an older machine Euro-Pro that I just loved but it quit sewing stitches. I am thrilled that after researching this Brother uses the exact same bobbins (I have 60+ of SA156). It also uses Low Shank Quick attaching feet that all my specialty rufflers, etc. will easily adapt to. It has an extra thread holder that mounts on top of the thread cartridge so you can use twin needles or your favorite thread. It is very versatile. The *.pes format for embroidery is very popular and many companies offer FREE downloads of graphics. You must check it out, and Amazon is the best place I know of. By Gianna I owned this machine for several months by now, and its amazing.As with any technological product (no matter if its a cellular or a sewing Machine) there's a learning curve for it. Do research, read manuals, ask around.I did a ton of research before buying this particular model. It could sew and embroider. most of the machines just came with either 4x4 hoops or 4 x 4 and 5 x 7 hoops. the large hoop for large projects are a plus. and last but not least, the price range of it, compare to other brands that do the same was the selling point hundred of dollars less than the others. WOW.Machine Related:- The sewing/embroidering part is big, yes BIG, making quilting or sewing big projects easier. But if you did a little research on this particular machine, you already knew it was big and that you will need ample space for it. When in sewing mode, its not bigger than any regular sewing machine, but with the embroidery arm attached this thing is huge, as to accommodate the big hoop that came with it.Mine is sitting on a desk by itself and my regular sewing machine and serger are in another desk.- Its very bright, which means that working on it is less of a task, more of a joy.Sewing part:- Include most of the presser feet you might need to start any project right away. - A beautiful selections of stitches lost of stitches to task and embellish your fabric. its true, there are not hundreds of them, but there are plenty.- making button hole is easier.- Threading system helps those of us that struggle with needle eye :-)Embroidery part:-Right out of the box, it comes with a software that allows you to do a ton of embroidery designs included. the hoops, 4 x 4 and 6 x 10 were the most easy to install that I have tested. just snap on place and ready!- there's a certain order to do things to avoid mistakes that are "user error", not machine related. and that's why there's a manual for it. manuals are your friends, READ THEM!-it includes designs both small and big to be used right away and you can download more via internet- it read all design formats: PES, HUS, DST, VP3, FHE, etc, although XXX is Singer native.- Speed control, back up and forward stitch buttons, to customize your user time, as fast/sow as you want, back up to restitch or forward to skip ahead.I do have cons, but all of the fixable.- the spool stand that comes on the machine, its a common complain. i don't know what it is, but thread tends to tangle on the path, making for the breaking threads and needles. a thread stand behind the machine solve it. Or, as i heard from many users, putting the spool in a cup behind the machine works wonders.:-)- it says to sew with the tension on "s" and embroider with it on "E". you will soon learn that you need to adapt this as tension relate to fabric and thickness of it. I embroider with it a little on top of the "E" and a little below the "S" for sewing.- The software that comes with it is as simple as it gets. you can create sayings and re-size designs, change colors, and that's it. But again, i knew this. I knew that Singer sell additional software for it. ALL machines come with this type of software unless you buy them with a bundle. You want to do more? prepare to pay more.Final thought: embroidery doesn't come cheap. Not even closed. Whether you want to create a small business or be creative around the house (my case) you are going to be buying LOTS and LOTS of stuffs: the special thread (I get mine here, poly Threadart brand, and Metro from their site.), stabilizers (all kinds: cut-away, tear-away, water soluble), needles, more designs, and if you want to be creative, additional software that will allow you to create or modify designs (I use Wilcom and Embird).Need help? there is plenty of it on the web, including great support pages, forums and groups (I belong to 2 amazing ones on Facebook)I love my XL-400 and will

May If you want to try your hand at a little bit of machine embroidery without investing tons of money in a machine, the PE500 is the one for you. (Amazon was offering it at 50% off, at $299 a tremendous incentive to buy.) This embroidery machine comes with a medium-sized embroidery hoop, 2 pre-wound bobbins, 3 spools of embroidery thread, 3 stabilizer sheets, a small scissors, plus the usual Brothers grab bag of essential sewing machine tools. There are only 70 designs pre-loaded on the machine, but you can do monogramming in your choice of 3 different alphabet styles and acquire more designs via embroidery cards or transfer them from your pc via the cable that is included in this package. Many more designs can be obtained from Brother's ibroidery website. Unlike a couple of other Brother sewing machines that I've used in the past, bobbins wind smoothly and evenly with a minimum of fuss.Having problems? With a push of a button, help screens are easily accessible - right on the machine itself!This machine is a delight to use, but if it doesn't stitch first check the upper threading. The tension at point #2 (diagrams for all threading are painted on the exterior of the machine) can be tricky. If you have the presser foot down, there is a good chance that your thread isn't on the right of the little metal bar. There actually is a take-up bar at point #4 that is recessed into the machine (Shades of those old Singers in Home Ec classes from eons ago!) and the thread must pass from right to left when it catches in there. Well, at least we don't have to actually push the thread through a little round hole anymore. If it still refuses to sew, gently remove the hoop from the embroidery unit and check the bobbin at the same time that you cut all the trailing threads underneath. The PE500 gets confused if there are too many tails under the material; it thinks that it's done sewing. Gently reattach the hoop and use the Adjust feature to pick stitching exactly where you left off.It's possible to invest another boatload of funds into embroidery machine thread. I found a set of 40 large spools in Brother-compatible colors for less than $40. (Substitute a 'close' color if an exact match was not in the set.) A Great Embroidery Machine for the Beginner! By Robert Welborn I have had this machine for about 3 months now and I actually like it better then my Brother PE770. I like my PE770 cause it can embroider up to 5x7" designs. The Brother PE500 has a maximum embroidery size of 4x4". I had it working within 5 minutes of taking it out of the box. I had my PE770 for 2 years and it was never opened when I got this machine...I was scared to take it out of the box. After using the PE500, I couldn't believe that I was intimidated my machine embroidery. The PE500 has a self threader that has worked for me every time...my PE770's threader has never worked for me yet. The only thing I don't like about the PE500 is that you have to connect it to a computer to load designs...it has some nice designs preloaded on it already and a few fonts too! The memory in it is capable of holding 12 more designs that you load onto it...if you want more, you have to delete some. All The Brother machines use the .PES format, and once you get this machine, you will go crazy searching for designs.The PE500 is so easy to use...it might take you a few ruined projects to get used to your machine, but practice on old scraps of fabric and get used to stabilizers and what kind to use with each fabric and you won't regret owning
